Serenity Strides Foundation was established from a personal recovery journey and a conviction that people should be given purpose, support and opportunity before addiction defines their lives. The Foundation uses endurance running and community engagement to create public awareness while developing practical programmes for young people and people in recovery.
Founder Denver Van Der Bergh brings lived experience of approximately 25 years of alcohol and drug addiction, followed by treatment, recovery, academic achievement and endurance running. His experience of trauma, loss, poverty and isolation informs the Foundation’s focus on what happens after rehabilitation: the need for routine, belonging, education, work and a reason to keep going.
This movement is built on lived experience.
Through endurance running, community engagement, and real connection, we aim to show that no matter where you come from — change is possible.
